Olympic update

Did I tell you how much I loved watching the parade of countries during the opening ceremonies? I love it every time, although the rest of the opening ceremonies is usually, um, unnecessary. Except for the torch-lighting and the parade of countries, it's a chance for the host country to spend a whole lotta money on alternative dance, costumes, and general weirdness. But the parade. OH, the parade. Every single face smiling. Every single face happy to have earned the chance to compete with the best the world has to offer. Every single one, sure that it will all go his way, that he will turn in the best performance of his athletic career, that he will win the gold for himself, his family, and his country. The only ones I saw behaving with anything less than decorum were >sigh< the Americans, and even their antics were subdued. It was the opening ceremony of the Olympics, after all.
I have been performing as well as work, home and baby Bug will allow as well. Here is my progress on Olympic Sock #1.

It's about 7 1/4 inches, instead of the 9 called for by the pattern, but I don't think I'll make it that long. 9 inches from cuff to top of foot on me is nearly a knee sock. So, maybe another 1/4 - 3/4 inches and I'll be ready to turn the heel. Tomorrow I will bring the sock to work with me and knit during my conference call, and knit a row every 20 or so minutes to give my wrists a break from the keyboard. I hope I'll get far enough to put OS#1 aside and cast on OS#2 while I'm at work. That way I can work on the heel at home, where I have my book and a little time to concentrate.
Oh yeah, and this is what the Bug looks like when he's too tired to finish his dinner of carrots and peas.

Note how, while rubbing his eyes with tiredness, he got the carrots and peas smeared all the way up to his forehead.

Well, we knit-letes need our rest, so off to bed for me. Living life is pretty tiring.  But in a good way. :-)
